DIY All-Purpose, Chemical-Free Spray Cleaner: Step-by-Step Guide

What You Need:

  • Water - Use filtered or tap water if you plan to use your cleaner within 1–2 weeks. Opt for a longer shelf life for distilled water, free from minerals and impurities that can cause buildup or bacterial growth.
  • Distilled White Vinegar - A powerhouse for natural cleaning, white vinegar is a natural disinfectant and deodorizer. Its acidity helps break down grease and grime while fighting bacteria. Avoid using vinegar on delicate surfaces like marble or granite.
  • Essential Oils - Essential oils add natural fragrance and enhance your cleaner’s power. Try: Tea Tree Oil for antibacterial properties, Lemon or Orange Oil for cutting grease, Lavender Oil for a fresh, calming scent.
Note: Always research baby and pet-safe essential oils before use.
  • Glass Spray Bottle - To reduce plastic waste, use a reusable glass spray bottle. It’s durable, eco-friendly, and ideal for homemade cleaners. A 16-oz bottle is perfect.
  • Funnel (Optional, but helpful!) - Using a funnel helps prevent spills and makes pouring easier, especially when working with essential oils and vinegar.

Instructions:

  1. Start with your bottle.
  2. Place a funnel in your spray bottle if needed.
  3. Add your liquids. Pour in 1 cup of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of distilled or filtered water.
  4. Add essential oils. Add 10–15 drops of your chosen essential oil(s). You can mix scents or stick to one.
  5. Seal and swirl. Screw on the spray nozzle tightly and swirl gently to combine.
  6. Use your cleaner! Spray on countertops, sinks, bathroom surfaces, doorknobs, and more. Wipe with a clean cloth. Avoid natural stone.

Pro Tip: Store your spray in a cool, dark place to protect the essential oils and extend its effectiveness.
